Worried about finding a job or losing the job you’ve got? Glos Lift Off can help

Richard Graham Glos Lift Off

A major skills and jobs festival is set to take place at Gloucester Rugby stadium in the City on September 11th. Called Glos Lift Off it has been organised by the city’s MP Richard Graham, and is being actively supported by all six of the county’s MPs.

Richard is now calling on employers with jobs skills & apprenticeships to get involved on the day, which will also host sessions for sectors, businesses and jobseekers from across the county.

Richard Graham said: “There are 90,000 people in Gloucestershire who are on furlough, 20,000 in Gloucester alone. By the end of November, when the furlough scheme comes to an end, many will be struggling to hold their jobs. This is a potential crisis for our county and our city.

“Gloslift off will bring together employers in the public and private sector to look at ways of helping young people leaving school, college or university, find the opportunities, jobs and opportunities they need. It’s also for people who have been, or might be, made redundant to look at what is out there, what opportunities there are to upskill because in every crisis, there are sectors and companies which are thriving.

And here at the club we have a number of jobs, from working in the office, to working behind the bars, looking after our pitch, cleaning the stadium, sorting out the kit,”  – and even playing rugby, he joked.

Sessions from: “What does a great CV look like” to “Are there still barriers to BAME Employment and what can we do to get rid of them?”. Other session will include how to benefit from digital business, how to start up your own business, what are the opportunities for apprentices in 2020, top tips for job interviews and what are the upskilling opportunities?

Each of the county’s 6 MPs will chair a session on what’s new and exciting in their constituency.

Specific sessions will focus on key industries for the county, including the Future of aerospace and aviation in Gloucestershire and How big is the cyber opportunity?
