Businesses, independent retailers and shoppers across the Worcester area are being invited to join a new online group designed to help support and grow sales after what has been one of the most challenging commercial times in modern memory.

The ‘Worcester Virtual High Street’ Facebook group is free to join and allows independent shops, services, tradespeople, crafters, e-sellers and entrepreneurs of all kinds to promote their wares to customers free of charge. Shoppers in turn have the chance to discover hundreds of exciting products, service providers, special offers and one-off buys on their doorstep.

Within a week of its launch, the group, which was set up by Shelsley-based entrepreneur Michael Whitefoot, is already attracting scores of new providers and shopping members every day.

Michael Whitefoot[3]“Worcester Virtual High Street is specifically designed as a hub to help bring providers and shoppers together across the Worcester area,” confirms Michael. “As I have personally discovered, it’s far too expensive for most product and service providers to have a physical High Street presence, and meanwhile consumers are looking for the most convenient way to buy essentials, gifts and more. By coming together online we can help even more people to shop local!”

Michael, a businessman and professional photographer, helped a friend to set up a similar group for shops in the Margate area last year. “Within weeks, it had thousands of members who were doing a roaring trade,” he explains. “If local providers and shoppers now join the Worcester Virtual High Street group they’ll discover lots of useful posts in their Facebook feed. By inviting friends and colleagues to take part too, it can only grow!”
