A top games developer in Leamington is set to expand its business with a move to new, bigger offices in the town centre.

Well Played Games, which is based in Leamington ‘Silicon’ Spa, has moved premises as the team continues to grow, with 19 members of staff covering all disciplines of game development including programmers, artists, designers, producers and product managers.

The company is expanding from an 1,800 sq ft office in Warwick Street in Leamington to a 3,872 sq ft office in Walton House on the Parade in the town centre.

Law firm Wright Hassall, assisted Well Played Games with the lease on the new property alongside Leamington-based commercial agents Wareing & Company, who put the deal together with the previous tenants.

Well Played Games has created top games including Warhammer: Combat Cards, the first videogame for the UglyDolls, and SkySaga, a free-to-play multiplayer role-playing game, and is planning to expand its team with the move, to continue developing new games.

Rich McClaughry, co-founder at Well Played Games, said: “The company has been steadily growing since it was founded three years ago, so the move to the new location was needed to accommodate this growth in the team.

“The move means we can continue to take on new challenges and welcome new developers to the family, in a cool space for them to work in.

“We are really excited about the future of the business, and we plan to create more great experiences and work with some of the best IP holders in the world. We’re always looking to create the best games we can and moving to a new studio is the first step.

“We have seen our players’ gaming patterns change as they look for entertainment inside their homes during the lockdown, and we’re happy to be able to provide a place for players to compete against each other and share their love of games.

“We have had to transition the whole company to working from home, luckily for us the industry is geared towards it, and we’re all looking forward to working together again in a creative space where we can share ideas and create better games from our new headquarters in Leamington.”

Nathan Hinks, solicitor at Leamington-based Wright Hassall, who assisted with the lease for the move, said: “During these difficult times, it’s great to have some good news from a local business that has been able to expand and find the perfect new office space to create new games from.

“Through the move to the new premises, Well Played Games will be able to continue creating quality games for people to enjoy, particularly during lockdown with the uptake in gaming, and we’re glad to have been able to help with this move.”

Jon Blood of commercial property company Wareing & Company, added: “The new lease for the property has increased the rental profile of the building and is an important development for one of Leamington’s gaming businesses.

“This is the first of many such deals being confirmed at the moment for the Gaming sector in the region, which is such a strong market and will be key to our regional recovery.”
