A Swindon recycling company has teamed up with French waste-to-energy company Citeo, fuel, gas and low-carbon electricity generator Total and global brands Nestle and Mars to develop an innovative industrial chemical recycling industry in France.
Recycling Technologies will be part of this first-of-a-kind consortium of world-leading players from across the plastic packaging value chain. The consortium will examine the technical and economic feasibility of recycling complex plastic waste, such as small, flexible and multilayered food-grade packaging. These products are currently considered non-recyclable and are either incinerated or disposed of in landfills.

Identifying and investing in the right waste management systems is a critical part of the solution to address the plastic waste problem. We support this new pyrolysis project in France to help identify circular systems for post-consumer plastic packaging and consequently increase the scale of recycling across Europe.”
“We are aiming for 100% of our packaging to be reusable or recyclable by 2025. Combining our expertise in a collective project to improve recycling is something we need to do to tackle the global plastic issue,” said Mathieu Tuau, Head of Packaging and Sustainability at Nestlé France.
Recycling Technologies key business proposition is its modular and scalable machine – the RT7000 – which chemically converts plastic waste, which currently cannot be recycled, into Plaxx® – a valuable hydrocarbon product. The machine is sized to be installed at existing waste sites and recycling centres, diverting residual plastic waste from ending up landfilled, incinerated or exported overseas.
The company intends to integrate into current recycling infrastructure by scaling out. Our mission is to build 1300 RT7000 machines in the next decade, to underpin our mission of producing 7 million tonnes of Plaxx® by 2027. In doing so, it says it will add 10 million tonnes of recycling capacity.
