Superdry co-founder’s cider company reveals new Glos shop

The co-founder of one of the world’s most successful fashion brands, Superdry, is applying his magic touch to his family’s organic cider Company

Julian Dunkerton has now brought his family business to Charlton Kings, Cheltenham and Dunkerton’s Organic Cider company has opened the doors on its new cider shop.

Helen Browning, Chief Executive of the Soil Association, was present at the opening for the ribbon cutting. She said: “When Ivor and Susie started Dunkertons cider they did so with the intention of working in harmony with the environment. Organic means fewer pesticides and chemicals, no controversial additives or GM and with Organic September now upon us, it’s a great time to celebrate. I’m thrilled to be marking 30 years of Soil Association organic certification for these true pioneers of organic cider production in the UK.”

The occasion not only marked the opening of the shop and cidery, but also celebrated the brand’s 30 year anniversary of organic certification from the Soil Association; the only cider brand to hold the certification.

There are nine different ciders and perry available, including both blended and single varieties and made using traditional cider apples and perry pears. Dunkertons is the only brand in the UK with an entirely certified organic range of hand blended ciders and perry, with each one 100% traceable back to the orchard of origin.

Dunkertons Organic Cider Co. was founded in 1980 by Julian Dunkerton’s late father Ivor and his step-mother Susie, who pioneered the approach of organic cider production. They placed environmental values at the heart of their vision and set about making a unique cider, operating in a similar fashion to a vineyard.

Dunkertons Cider – now owned by the ex-Superdry entrepreneur, Julian – continuesto produce award winning ciders and perry in the same way, made from fruit grown in certified organic orchards.

Having built the largest cidery in Gloucestershire, the shop will be the latest addition to the Dunkertons Organic Cider Co. headquarters, which will be open to the public looking to purchase products from the cider range or book a tour.

Also available to purchase in the new Dunkertons Cider Co. shop at Dowdeswell Park will be freshly baked organic breads from the Artisan Boulangerie Co., cheeses from various organic suppliers and, The Kitchen Garden products exclusively made in partnership with Dunkertons using their award winning Black Fox cider.

Bean Benson, Managing Director of Dunkertons Organic Cider Co., said: “What better way to celebrate 30 years of organic certification and our brand new shop and cidery than by throwing a big party! It was a fantastic evening and a great way to kick off Organic September. Organic is at the heart of everything we do, from our orchards right through to our finished products. We are the only cider and perry brand in the UK to be able to say that our entire product range is certified organic and Julian and I really grateful to have this opportunity to continue Ivor and Susie’s vision.”
