Spirax-Sarco engineering staff help create woodland haven for Sue Ryder hospice

Big hearted staff from Cheltenham-based Spirax-Sarco Engineering swapped ‘steam’ for ‘strim’ recently, volunteering their time to create a woodland haven for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

Together 18 staff, including Spirax-Sarco Engineering CEO Nick Anderson, spent a day volunteering to help create a woodland trail following a circular route through the woodland around the hospice.

Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice Service Director, Elise Hoadley, said. “The land around our existing woodland walk had become so overgrown and inaccessible, but thanks to the team from Spirax-Sarco Engineering it is now a beautiful trail, showcasing our amazing grounds.

“We all know how much fresh air and walking help boost our feelings of wellbeing, and the new trail is doing just that by giving our patients and their visiting loved ones, volunteers and staff a beautiful new place to enjoy the abundant wildlife we’re blessed with around our hospice.”

Sean Morris, Group Head of Reward for Spirax-Sarco Engineering worked with the charity to arrange the corporate volunteering day to give something back to the local community. He said, “I have organised volunteering days at previous organisations and was keen to do it again at Spirax.

“I have been a long supporter of the fantastic work Sue Ryder does, and Leckhampton Court Hospice has looked after a number of close family members in recent years. The care and compassion provided there is second to none.”

Sean added the day was a great success for staff. “The day itself was fantastic. We were supported by the hospice fundraising and maintenance teams to make all the necessary arrangements to ensure we were Covid-secure and the day ran like clockwork.

“We had a separate room, refreshments, tools and safety workwear to make sure we could complete our task safely. Since our day there I’ve been contacted by other Spirax-Sarco Engineering teams wanting to do something similar to support Sue Ryder. We look forward to going back to the hospice again!”

Corporate support plays a key role in supporting Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice to be there for local people when it matters.
