Designed to recognise and celebrate the achievements of businesses throughout the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, the winners of the 2020 awards were announced in a virtual presentation via BBC Radio Gloucestershire’s Pete Wilson – with the original presentation evening having been cancelled due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Richard Cook of Severn & Wye Smokery, said: “We are delighted to have been named ‘Restaurant of the Year’ at the Forest of Business Awards 2020. It’s some very welcome news after an otherwise incredibly tough time for the hospitality industry. We have a fantastic team at The Barn and we are very proud of everything we have achieved since it’s opening in 2017, so to have our hard work recognised in this way is fantastic.”
The Barn at Severn & Wye is part of a family run business that’s so named because of its position between the two great salmon rivers on the edge of the Royal Forest of Dean, in the rural community of Chaxhill.
The food offered in the restaurant, café and deli is a celebration of the very best British seafood, with their own smoked and cured fish, meat and poultry prepared by a team of talented chefs, as well as seasonal produce from local suppliers who share the same passion, enthusiasm and drive for culinary excellence.
In March 2019, The Barn at Severn & Wye appointed Mark Stinchcombe, winner of the 2015 BBC Master Chefs: The Professionals, as Head Chef. The seafood restaurant offers a relaxed environment for visitors to indulge in menus featuring only the freshest ingredients, cooked to perfection.
Following a temporary period of closure in line with Government guidance, the popular restaurant is now offering a takeaway service on a limited menu, which includes fish and chips, the Severn & Wye mixed smoked platter, Kedgeree with Severn & Wye smoked haddock and salmon, and a Catch of the Day.
The fish market, deli and food hall at The Barn are also open and well stocked with a wide array of fresh, frozen and chilled products; including their renowned fish and seafood offerings, as well as artisan goods from local Gloucestershire suppliers.
