Gloucestershire headquartered, ModuleCo, one of the UK’s most successful providers of high-quality, fast-track modular healthcare facilities has recently been contracted to supply Phase 2 of a twin operating theatre suite and recovery facilities for the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) in Birmingham.
ModuleCo successfully handed-over Phase 1 to ROH in December 2019 and the overall scheme has been described by Professor Philip Begg (Executive Director of Strategy and Delivery at ROH) as “innovative” and “transformative for the Trust and everyone who works here”.
Since handover of Phase 1, the new theatres have been running 6 days a week at maximum capacity throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and the demand for additional capacity is such that ModuleCo will deliver the two additional theatre suites, along with an 8-bed private patient ward, prior to Christmas 2020.
The new theatre and ward facilities are part of a state-of-the-art two-storey modular building which will create over 100 new jobs and allow ROH to treat an additional 2,500 patients a year.
The facility will once again be delivered in conjunction with ModuleCo Healthcare (MCH) who have provided a cost-effective, long-term rental of the modular building to the Trust. The rental is inclusive of the facility, site works and equipment for both the theatres and the ward levels. This arrangement means that no capital investment is required from the Trust for the scheme, as rental payments are funded by the additional revenue that the facility generates.
William Thornton, ModuleCo’s Chief Executive said: “We are delighted to be working with Royal Orthopaedic Hospital again to deliver Phase 2 of this impressive project which showcases the best that modular construction can offer. We look forward to delivering a scheme that will provide the Trust with high-quality facilities and significant additional capacity in these unique and challenging times”.
