Delivered by local Growth Hubs like OxLEP Business, Peer Networks is a national scheme funded by the government to support small to medium businesses.
Via the Growth Hub and OxLEP Business, professional facilitators support small groups of business leaders to work together solving problems and sharing ideas with some additional one-to-one support.
Usually, the groups meet on a bi-weekly basis for a couple of hours to discuss topics selected by themselves to work together and create tangible solutions in a collaborative, non-competitive environment.
Why is Peer Networks proving so successful for Oxfordshire SMEs?
The power of Peer Networks comes from the fact business leaders are learning from their peers to find real solutions to the real challenges by utilising the knowledge and experience of those in a similar position. Groups are carefully chosen so that you will not be with any competitors and the sessions are completely confidential.
The professionally facilitated sessions ensure that real results are achieved, and all business leaders need to invest is their time, as this is a completely free programme.
In addition, participants also receive one-to-one support from a business expert or experts matched to their specific needs to help them build on their learning or tackle a specific issue. This is especially valuable where a business has a critical specialist issue as time with an appropriate expert is again fully-funded.
OxLEP Business has seen two of its Peer Network participants, SYLO | Beyond HR and Databasix UK collaborate on an exciting new project as a result of working together.
Kellie Peters, Chief Executive of Databasix UK comments: “For me, it was nice to discuss what it’s like to be a co-founder of a business during the pandemic…and speak to people who are at the same level professionally and have the same concerns. It’s been really good to forge closer relationships with other business leaders, discover our commonality and be supporting other OxLEP businesses. It doesn’t matter that the businesses in the group were all different.”
