Oxford Office Furniture launches EV fleet electrified with vehicle to grid chargers

Oxford Office Furniture is going the extra (electric) mile and installing vehicle to grid chargers at its main offices in Bicester.

Dave Beesley, CEO of Oxford Office Furniture, said: ““We are excited to be on the cutting edge of new, innovative solutions by installing V2G chargers with Nuvve and E-Flex. When the vehicles return after their days’ work and are plugged in, some remaining energy in the battery is sent back to the building to offset the peak energy prices and lower the reliance on carbon-fueld energy during high demand periods of the day.”

“It’s amazing to imagine that Oxford Office Furniture’s EV fleet helps lessen the need for power stations during the hours we get home for a cup of tea or to cook dinner. Later in the night, the vans are charged back up with clean energy during off peak prices which saves us money and further lowers emissions.”

Beesley has been a personal promoter of EVs for years, owning his first mini-E as part of the BMW Mini-E Pioneers Trial starting in 2009. He sees V2G as an important technology necessary to add more EVs to his fleet and power them with renewable energy sources.

Oxford City Council and Oxfordshire County Council are leading the way in electrification and are set to introduce a Zero Emission Zone (ZEZ) in the Oxford city centre in August 2021.

Dave added that Oxford Office Furniture’s customers are now demanding their suppliers deliver with zero emissions.

Dave added: “People ask why we are doing this. The answer is easy:  environmental protection is our core value and we want to make sure we are doing all we can for our Grandchildren’s future and their Grandchildren’s. Let’s hope many other businesses follow our lead so less power stations are required going forward and it’s a cleaner world for everyone.”
