Maternity leave inspires childrenswear brand

A little about the business. While on maternity leave with my first child I created pikolo, an organic childrenswear company for babies & toddlers.

The ethos is always ethical. It is all designed by myself here in the UK. It is made to the highest ethical standards in India. The colours are always bold & bright. The garments are gender neutral which means the clothes last longer, so they can be worn time & time again. One collection a year promotes slow fashion, which is not only good for the planet, but good for your pocket too. They are clothes that really don’t cost the Earth/earth.

A little about me. I am a work at home mum working part time for a creative design company. With a degree in fashion textiles, I found myself resurrecting some past pattern making skills and set about designing the prints.

The stars aligned at the right time when the organic childrenswear market was crying out for bright, bold, ethical clothes designed in the UK.

Enter pikolo & a very successful Kickstarter which ended in June. I had 10 amazing retailers sign up for stockist bundles, 8 in the UK, 1 in Australia & 1 in New Zealand, as well as amazing support from individual backers who all made pikolo possible.

I am happy to announce all backers received their pikolo parcels on Friday the 25th of October, which is also when we launched globally.

The response has been amazing & it really does make my heart sing to see all these precious little people in pikolo.

The ‘Make It Happen’ package offered by WINN not only to the winner, but also to the runners up, is such a fantastic source of expertise. I am eager to speak with everyone to see how I can grow the business, now I am through the launch. The hard work & momentum needs to be maintained for pikolo to have longevity and continued success.

Have a little look for yourself…
