An office building which opened only last year has been recognised as one of the best workplaces in the South of England and South Wales.
Honeybourne Place, on Jessop Avenue in Cheltenham, was recognised at the annual British Council for Offices‘ (BCO) regional awards, which recognise the highest quality developments in the UK and sets the standard for excellence in the regional and national office sector.
Honeybourne Place, Jessop Avenue was crowned the best Commercial Workplace in the South of England and Wales. A winning combination of entrepreneurial flair and great design has demonstrated that new commercial workspaces can be successfully developed outside the main regional centres. The judges celebrated the bold decision to build the 65,000 sq ft office development in Cheltenham and admired the way in which the developer and architect used their extensive local knowledge to create a cost effective and flexible building that oozes quality and attention to detail.
Alistair Allison, Partner at TFT Consultants and BCO South of England and South Wales Judging Chair, said: “The team behind Honeybourne Place spent money wisely to create a strikingly modern series of elevations that protect the local area. For the project to be commercially successful, it was necessary to set a new rental level for Cheltenham and this has been achieved with the project substantially pre-let which we found impressive, along with its key considerations of sustainability and wellbeing which are clear in the building design.”
Andy Heath, Partner at Cushman & Wakefield and BCO South of England and South Wales Regional Committee Chair, added:“The building provides the ideal mix of free-span floor plates on all levels with extensive glazing to maximise the panoramic views. It is evident that great care has been taken with the interior design which brings real warmth and creative flair to the common parts of the building and positions Honeybourne Place as the worthy winner in the Commercial Workspace category.”
Other workplaces across the South West and Wales that received recognition included Eagle House, Colston Avenue, Bristol – for its Refurbished/Recycled Workplace and 12 Forbury Court, Reading in the category of Projects up to 1,500m2.
In the Midlands region, KMB Tachbrook Park, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire won the best refurbished/recycled workplace and the Prof. Lord Bhattacharyya Building, Coventry won an innovation award.
The regional winners will compete win the BCO Virtual National Awards on Tuesday 26 January 2021.
