We need building and construction professionals across Oxfordshire to help us deliver retrofit projects.
With growing knowledge of the importance of buildings, including residential homes, in the context of the climate crisis, there is growing demand amongst homeowners to deliver home retrofit projects.
Home energy consumption accounts for around 30% of total energy used in the UK, and around 20% of our total carbon emissions. According to Ofgem, the average UK home with a medium energy consumption uses 12,000 kWh of gas per year and 3,100 kWh of electricity per year. That represents total carbon emissions of 3,067kg per year. If we are to do something about climate change, tackling the terrible energy performance of homes is key.
“If we are to meet the 2050 targets of the Climate Change Act, then all housing in the UK must have zero carbon emissions from space and water heating, and space cooling.” – Rick Hartwig, Built Environment Lead at the Institute for Engineering and Technology (IET)
On top of that, inefficient homes means uncomfortable homeowners – too hot in the summer, too cold in the winter, facing issues with mould and damp, and racking up huge energy bills.
There’s a huge opportunity here for the building and construction sector to lead the way in tackling these issues. We’ve already seen the launch of the Green Homes Grant by the UK government this year, and retrofit is set to become more and more prominent. It’s time to futureproof your construction business by getting involved with retrofit projects, and lead the way in transforming the UK’s housing stock to beat climate change.
But, we know that shifting your business focus isn’t an easy option. It takes time and research to know how to do this. Cosy Homes Oxfordshire can make the process simple.
