One of the fastest growing companies in the Midlands is set to continue on the expansion trail after taking on a record number of apprentices.
RS Connect, based in Coleshill, is the UK’s largest installer of insurance telematics and vehicle safety equipment, including camera systems to vehicle fleets, and was recently named as the fastest growing company in the area in the Coventry and Warwickshire Growth Barometer Report, published by accountancy and business advisory firm BDO.
The firm, which enjoyed a 76.6 per cent average growth over a three-year period, has a long-established apprentice academy and has just recruited a record 20 students to its scheme from around 500 applicants.
The students will learn at the company’s headquarters, including top-up skills for those who may not have reached the required academic standards at school, before moving to on-the-job training, with their mentors across the UK, as RS Connect covers from the Highlands of Scotland to the Isle of Wight.
Jason Davis, Finance Director at RS Connect, said: “We really believe in training our staff and the apprentice scheme has proved very successful with more than 90 per cent of the trainees coming through the scheme eventually working with us for the long term.
“We employ around 330 staff right across the UK, and we recruit in the areas where we know there will be most need. The trainees come to us to learn the core skills before moving out into the field to work with mentors who are experienced in all our areas of operation.”
RS Connect – which also works in the fit out of vehicles for the blue-light services – provides top-up skills training for students who have not reached the required academic standards.
Davis added: “There is no question that taking on young people who can learn their training here and understand the ethos and approach of RS Connect ensures that we have the highest standards of not only professional capability but also customer service wherever we operate across the UK.”
RS Connect continues to look to the future and its team of in-house designers and developers are creating a market changing fleet management platform for commercial vehicles.
Paul Fenner, partner at BDO, said: “RS Connect has grown very strongly and its investment in people and keeping them in the business ensures that its staff continue to apply the same high standards which have made the company successful.
“Growth has to be planned and managed well, and it is clear that RS Connect are doing just that, and the apprentice scheme is one important factor in that expansion.”
