Fibrecity, Bournemouth.

Civil engineering company Callan Connect has been appointed as second construction partner in the project by CityFibre to roll out superfast broadband to every address in Coventry.

CityFibre is the UK’s leading alternative provider of wholesale full fibre infrastructure and is partnering with Vodafone to bring a new generation of gigabit-capable full fibre broadband to five million homes by 2025.

CityFibre’s manager for Coventry, Leigh Hunt, said: “Over the last six months there has been tremendous progress in our plans to bring reliable, high capacity, gigabit-capable broadband within reach of nearly every home and business in Coventry by 2022.

“We’re very much looking forward to working with the team at Callan Connect, many of whom are Coventrians with a real passion for digitally transforming their neighbourhood.”

Lance Callan, Director at Callan Connect, said: “We are delighted to be part of constructing the first aerial city in the UK.”

CityFibre’s £60m fibre-to-the-premises project in Coventry will provide commercial and residential sites with access to gigabit-speed internet services and is expected to bring significant benefits to the city over the next 15 years.

Coventry’s existing network will be expanded to nearly every home and business in the city, giving access to broadband services of up to 900mbps for the first time.
