Palliative, neurological, and bereavement support charity Sue Ryder is asking businesses across the Thames Valley to join them for a sensational Summer Ball and help local families needing bereavement support.
Being held at the Hilton Hotel in Reading on Saturday 2nd July, the Sue Ryder Thames Valley Summer Ball sponsored by Gravity Personnel promises a night of glitz and glamour whilst offering the unique opportunity to give back to the local community, raising vital funds towards Sue Ryder’s Family Support Coordinator post in Berkshire and Oxfordshire.
The specialist role is held by Ken Blanton across Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading and Sue Ryder Palliative Care Hub South Oxfordshire in Wallingford. And he says he sees firsthand how much of a difference compassionate bereavement support can make.
“It is a huge responsibility and privilege to be part of the family support team here at Sue Ryder in the Thames Valley working with patients and families as they come to terms with a sense of loss and bereavement. Experiences of grief have been so difficult for so many people over the past two years amidst the pandemic, but here at Sue Ryder we have continued to reach out to local families offering our support.
“It is so important we remind people that grief doesn’t have one face and although everyone handles loss and bereavement in different ways which are unique to them, everyone hurts and it is so important people have the opportunity to be able to talk about it.”
All money raised by the Summer Ball will go towards funding Ken’s role, which supports two family support teams of professionals and trained volunteers working across the Thames Valley region.
Hosted by local comedian Adger Brown, the evening will offer:
- Sparkling drinks reception
- Gourmet three course meal
- Exclusive charity auction
- Live music and dancing from the Vodka Martinis.
- Drinks reception and cash bar open at 7:00pm
- Dinner at 8.00pm
- Carriages at 1.00am
Date: Saturday 2nd July
Venue: Hilton Reading
It’s a big fundraiser for the charity and Sue Ryder’s Head of Fundraising for Thames Valley, Fern Haynes, hopes local businesses will support them by purchasing a table and enjoy the evening with colleagues, family or clients. “The past couple of years have been challenging for our patients but also their loved ones,” she shares. “By attending our Summer Ball you will be helping local people get the vital support they need at what is a really difficult time. The funded post will support families who have experienced the loss of a loved one at our Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading and our Palliative Care Hub in South Oxfordshire.”
“The event will also provide you with the exceptional opportunity to entertain colleagues or clients or celebrate summer in style with family and friends whilst helping to give something back to your local community.”
Amal Sharma, Business Development Consultant at sponsors Gravity Personnel is delighted to be supporting the event. “Gravity Personnel’s success enables us to improve the lives of those around us. As an enthusiastic supporter of local charities, we are proud of our caring reputation and strongly believe in giving back to the community.
This year we are delighted to sponsor the Sue Ryder Summer Ball, taking place on Saturday 2nd July 2022 at the Hilton Hotel in Reading. All money raised from the Summer Ball will go directly towards funding a Family Support Councillor, providing bereavement support in the Thames Valley region. By supporting what promises to be a wonderful event, you can help local people get the vital support they need at a difficult time.”
