Barratt Developments to build 230 homes at Newent, Forest of Dean

Newent

More than 200 new homes are set to be built in Newent in the Forest of Dean, supporting up to 700 jobs, following the purchase of a site in the town by one of the UK’s leading housebuilders, Barratt Developments.

The site, which lies to the north of Southend Lane, just outside the town centre, has recently been given planning consent for 230 new homes, and will also include new community facilities. 138 homes will be two, three and four-bedrooms available on the open market, 75 of which will be developed as David Wilson Homes and 63 as Barratt Homes.

The remaining 92 homes – 40% of the total – will be affordable housing, made up from one-bedroom apartments and two, three, four and five-bedroom houses.

The mixture of new homes has been designed to appeal to a range of people, helping to create a balanced new community for the town.

As well as providing new homes for the area, the development will provide a variety of community benefits including two new play areas for the development, £45,000 towards local libraries in Newent and £85,000 to promote sustainable travel options.

Ian Menham, managing director, Barratt & David Wilson South West said: “We have previously built successful communities in Newent and Coleford, but not been active in the area for several years.

“This development will provide a mix of homes and is likely to attract buyers from the area and commuters seeking a gentler pace of life, or the many now choosing to work more from home.
