RUNNING a cricket centre for 101 five-to-eight year-olds could easily intimidate experienced sports administrators let alone an enthusiastic volunteer.
(promotional business feature)
But Chris Green, managing partner of Worcester-based Chris Green Media (CGM), ran the country’s second biggest All Stars centre this summer.
All Stars Cricket is a new initiative from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) aimed at providing children with a fantastic first experience of the sport.
The programme runs for eight consecutive weeks with the emphasis firmly on fun, being active and developing movement skills.
A Worcestershire CCC fan since childhood, Chris receives sterling support from scheme co-activator Claire Cowlard and his wife (and CGM media relations partner) Teresa Green, who runs All Stars reception and administration.
Managing a team of adult coaches and junior helpers who deliver the lively sessions is part of the picture – with club members and their families playing a key role by serving food and drink to generate vital income and a feel good factor for the community club.
Chris and Teresa’s many years of media and marketing know-how has also helped – including some savvy social media and proactive PR resulting in extensive publicity.
Generating a weekly email newsletter featuring the smiling faces of youngsters learning to bat, bowl and field keeps parents informed of events – which this summer included a medal ceremony and disco, and visits by dignitaries including Mid Worcestershire MP Nigel Huddleston and Droitwich’s Deputy Mayor Bill Moy.
Droitwich Spa’s scheme is now regarded as a model for other clubs with Chris’s efforts recognised at the annual Worcestershire Cricket Board awards in July when he was presented with a special All Stars award.
Chris Green Media (CGM) is a specialist media, communications and marketing agency offering media training; PR, communications and marketing services; creative design, video and photography and publishing services from its centre in Blackpole, Worcester.
Founded in 2008, CGM has developed a proud record of supporting charity events and good causes including Strictly Worcestershire – the company has been the event’s media marketing and communications partner since it began in 2014 – The Prince’s Trust (Chris was a fund-raising committee member for many years) and Mentor Link, via contributions from the CGM’s Business Media Club.
CGM has also provided PR support for community tributes including footballers Duncan Edwards and West Bromwich Albion’s ‘Three Degrees’ – Laurie Cunningham, Cyrille Regis and Brendon Batson.
